As Universal Tech Movement continues to advocate for a City of Austin budget that supports workforce development and other resources the communities we serve need to thrive, we are proud to join more than 30 organizations across Austin in supporting the Community Investment Budget (CIB). CIB is a shared call for Austin’s FY 2026–2027 budget to protect the services that keep people in Austin housed, healthy, employed, and moving forward.
This budget season, Austin is weighing roughly $8 million in cuts to social services — including about $5 million from the provider contracts that fund workforce development, digital inclusion, and reentry support. Last year alone, UTM served 379 people and placed 128 people into jobs at a median wage of about $25 an hour, proving that our work has a direct economic impact on the City in which we are headquartered. Now that’s work worth advocating for and investing in!
Call to Action: Join UTM in telling Austin City Council that a stronger Austin is built by investing in its people. Austin City Council will be holding public work sessions and hearings through August 17th, 2026 . You can attend a session (the August 6 Public Hearing is a key date), testify for two minutes in person or online, and share why community investment matters to you.
