It’s Our Anniversary
Hello/Hola,
Join Universal Tech Movement in celebrating seven years as an official nonprofit! Although we became a nonprofit in 2019, our roots go back even further to 2016, when a dedicated group of Black tech leaders in Austin came together to build something transformative.
What began as a shared vision to advance opportunities in the tech industry for the communities we serve, grew into a formal commitment to create a movement that radically changes lives. Ten years later, we’ve built a proven track record of connecting communities in need to the tech industry through workforce readiness, innovation, and economic advancement.
As our mission and our work has expanded, one thing has remained the same: our acknowledgement of the need for wraparound support. Access to technology and career pathways changes lives, but true empowerment is impossible if basic human needs are left unaddressed.
With a large number of the individuals and families UTM serves living at or below the poverty line, UTM recognizes the need to support the whole person, not just their careers. So to mark seven years as a formal organization, the UTM team is spending our anniversary volunteering at the Central Texas Food Bank to help fight food insecurity in the city where we are headquartered — Austin, TX.

Federal Strategy Elevates Military Tech Priorities for AI, Space, and Undersea Systems
U.S. Tech News — The White House released its updated National Security Science & Technology Strategy (NSSTS), officially setting artificial intelligence, space architecture, and undersea autonomous networks as top national defense tech imperatives.
For our tech entrepreneurs out there, take note of the re-aligned defense R&D grants and federal contract pipelines toward commercial tech startups and contractors building dual-use quantum, biotech, and autonomous hardware.
UK and Ukraine Form Bilateral Defense AI Alliance
Global Tech News — The UK and Ukraine signed a defense technology partnership giving British AI researchers direct access to Ukraine's Avengers AI Labs and its dataset of over 5 million battlefield images to train tactical AI models. This will accelerate the global integration of generative AI into sovereign defense infrastructure, setting new international precedents for multi-nation collaborative development of combat-tested autonomous technology.
