Job Summary

The Director of Growth & Marketing is responsible for building and scaling UTM’s demand engine, brand authority, and community presence.

This role owns the full lifecycle of:

  • Audience growth 

  • Event demand and attendance 

  • Community engagement (volunteers, participants, partners) 

  • Brand positioning and storytelling 

  • Marketing systems and campaigns 

This is not a content or social media role.

This is a growth leadership role responsible for ensuring that UTM becomes:

  • A recognized leader in tech workforce and community engagement 

  • A dominant convener of tech events and ecosystem activity 

  • A consistent generator of inbound opportunities (partners, volunteers, participants, donors)

Division Ownership

This role oversees two core divisions:

Growth (Demand Generation)

  • Audience acquisition 

  • Inbound pipeline development 

  • Event demand and attendance 

  • Community expansion 

Marketing (Brand & Execution)

  • Content and storytelling 

  • Campaign execution 

  • Brand positioning and visibility 

  • Communications across all channels 

The Director is responsible for ensuring both divisions operate as a unified system that drives measurable growth and visibility.

Core Responsibilities

1. Growth Strategy & Demand Generation

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy to drive awareness, engagement, and participation across all UTM programs 

  • Build a repeatable inbound engine generating: 

    • Event attendees 

    • Volunteers 

    • Program participants 

    • Partner interest 

  • Identify and scale high-leverage growth channels 

  • Establish and optimize acquisition funnels 

2. Event Growth & Ecosystem Leadership

  • Own the growth strategy for UTM events (target: 2+ per month) 

  • Ensure consistent and increasing attendance 

  • Position UTM as a leading convener of tech ecosystem events 

  • Build repeatable event promotion systems 

3. Brand, Storytelling & Content Engine

  • Build and manage a high-quality storytelling engine showcasing: 

    • Participant success 

    • Program outcomes 

    • Community impact 

    • Partner highlights 

  • Oversee content strategy across all platforms 

  • Establish a clear and differentiated brand voice 

4. Community & Audience Development

  • Grow and engage core audiences: 

    • Volunteers 

    • Participants 

    • Alumni 

    • Partners 

  • Build systems for ongoing engagement and retention 

5. Marketing Operations & Systems

  • Build and manage marketing infrastructure: 

    • CRM integration (Microsoft Dynamics) 

    • Campaign tracking and attribution 

    • Email marketing systems 

  • Develop reporting dashboards and performance tracking 

6. Collaboration with Partnerships & Revenue

  • Partner closely with the Director of Partnerships & Revenue to align demand generation with revenue conversion

  • Own the generation of marketing-sourced pipeline

  • Support sponsorship and partnership visibility 

  • Establish a clear handoff from engagement → partnership pipeline

7. Team & Resource Management

  • Build and manage a lean marketing function 

  • Oversee contractors, freelancers, and agencies 

  • Allocate budget across channels for maximum ROI 

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

Success in this role will be measured by the ability to build a scalable growth engine that drives engagement and pipeline creation.

Demand & Pipeline Creation

  • Generate consistent inbound leads across partners, participants, and volunteers 

  • Contribute a measurable portion of partnership pipeline through marketing-driven efforts 

Event Performance

  • Achieve and maintain attendance targets per event 

  • Increase conversion from event attendees to active participants, partners, or volunteers 

Audience Growth

  • 2–3x growth in owned audience (email, community, social) 

  • Increased engagement across channels 

Brand & Market Presence

  • Establish UTM as a recognized leader in tech community events and workforce development 

  • Consistent publication of high-quality impact stories 

Systems & Attribution

  • Implement full campaign tracking and reporting 

  • Provide clear visibility into marketing’s contribution to growth and pipeline

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in growth, marketing, or demand generation 

  • Proven ability to build and scale audience or community-driven initiatives 

  • Experience driving measurable growth outcomes 

  • Strong strategic and execution capabilities 

  • Data-driven mindset 

  • Strong storytelling and communication skills 

Preferred:

  • Experience in workforce development, tech ecosystems, or community organizations 

  • Experience in early-stage or high-growth environments 

  • Familiarity with CRM systems (Microsoft Dynamics preferred)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $85,000–$95,000, commensurate with experience

Performance Incentive: Bonus tied to growth, engagement, and pipeline metrics
